Although this story is fictional, it is set against the non-fictional background of the time when Baburam Bhattarai, who was the prime minister of Nepal from 2011-2013, visited various Freed Kamaiya camps. In the year 2002, Nepal abolished the Kamaiya or bonded
labour system that was especially prevalent in many parts of Nepal’s Tarai region.
